i had the courage and the chance to use giant and bobcat! it was an elating feeling. i was paired with Helga for this task. we had to transfer one pile of mulch in the compost area to another place using the bobcat.
before we started using the machine, we hopped on to it and get to know the functions of the buttons, how to use the steering lever, how to lift and tilt the bucket and of course, we checked the oil and fuel.
i actually liked using bobcat. of course, it's a trial and error thing because there were times when i wanted to tilt the bucket on one side but it went to the other side. but i wasn't scared to try experimenting with the joystick and the hydraulic brake pedals. and yes, since i have a short legs, i found it hard to step on the brake pedals. all in all, i felt safe in this machine. with that seat belt, who wouldn't feel safe?
after half day of practicing with bobcat, Helga drove the Giant machine to the compost area. i also had the chance to practice with it. i was supposed to scoop the soil from the pit and transfer it to another place, but the soil was still frozen, so we just let that task go.
we went to the compost area behind the greenhouse to check on some works there. mixing the compost pile using kubota and avant had to be done. and because i felt courageous that day, i was able to practice on both machines.
the Avant machine works almost the same like Giant, but it was a bit jumpy. when i first sat behind the wheel and started the engine, i got scared because it just sprang. but after a while, i got the control over it. one of my problems was, driving backwards because the back part goes to another way and i needed to check the logic of going to the left or right. otherwise, i had a good practice with it.
Komatsu was the last machine that i tried that day. it's an intimidating big machine for me, but it was actually user-friendly. i was mixing the compost pile with that machine until we called it a day. surprisingly, i got to drive the machine back to the garage! i was praying all the while i was driving through the small road that there won't be any cars driving against or behind me so i won't totally panic. but i did it! i drove the Komatsu machine to the garage and detached the bucket off of it.
it was a loooong one, but i claim this day as "my favorite machine working day". i was so glad that i got to drive all of the four machines. i went home elated!
